Paving the Way for a Future Proof Transport Network

The Greater Ballarat Alliance of Councils (GBAC) welcomes the State Government’s announcement of $60,000 from the Flexible Local Transport Solutions Program to go towards the development of a Strategic Transport Assessment.

GBAC will commit a further $60,000 towards the strategy, taking the total value to $120,000.

The Department of Transport and Planning will soon begin work with the City of Ballarat and Shires of Central Goldfields, Golden Plains, Hepburn, Moorabool and the Pyrenees to develop the strategy.

The new strategy will include an in-depth analysis of the current transport situation in the greater Ballarat area, including public transport, freight and residential traffic. The work will focus specifically on creating a framework that guide how public transport can also be part of the region’s growing economic development, social and housing needs.

The strategy’s funding is an integral step forward for the Alliance, who are collaborating across Local Government Areas to advocate for solutions to three priority areas, impacting their communities: Transport infrastructure, Growth and Digital Connectivity.

GBAC Chair and Mayor of the City of Ballarat, Cr. Des Hudson OAM: "The State Government’s funding boost is a vital step in ensuring that our transport network can meet the demands of our growing communities. The Strategic Transport Assessment will be crucial in developing a transport network that not only meets current demands but also supports future growth and development."

This assessment will provide us with the insights needed to create an effective public transport plan to support connectivity for our neighbouring communities and support economic growth throughout the Greater Ballarat region."
